Coming Up This Week at 5@5
December 27
Join us this week as we welcome Martin Hutchison as our speaker. Martin is the pastor at Community of Joy Church of the Brethren in Salisbury, Maryland.
Plan to be there for our informal time together of Celebrating the word of God through music, prayer, and fellowship together.
Devotion Theme: "Listen Up"
Scripture:
Isaiah 35: 1-10
1 The desert and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the LORD,
the splendor of our God.
Strengthen the feeble hands,
steady the knees that give way;
say to those with fearful hearts,
"Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
he will come to save you."
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
Then will the lame leap like a deer,
and the mute tongue shout for joy.
Water will gush forth in the wilderness
and streams in the desert.
The burning sand will become a pool,
the thirsty ground bubbling springs.
In the haunts where jackals once lay,
grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.
And a highway will be there;
it will be called the Way of Holiness.
The unclean will not journey on it;
it will be for those who walk in that Way;
wicked fools will not go about on it.
No lion will be there, nor will any ferocious beast get up on it;
they will not be found there.
But only the redeemed will walk there,
and the ransomed of the LORD will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away. NIV

Coming Up This Week at 5@5
December 20
We look forward to Norris Bunn sharing a devotion this week. It promises to be an inspiring time together as we continue to prepare for the coming of Christ during this Christmas Season.
Last Week at 5 @ 5 (Dec. 13) was another great week. While we were a bit smaller because of the children's program later that evening at Church we still had an uplifting time together. Micah Morris shared about about how Jesus may come to each of us in unexpected ways, just like he did when he was born in a stable and placed in a manger over 2000 years ago.
Melissa Rodriguez joined the Priase Band which once again sound great as we sang a combonation of Christmas songs and uplifitng Christian songs.
Everyone is invited to join us each Sunday evening from 5:00-6:00pm as we celebrate the love that God has for each one of us through Celebrating, Singing, Praying, Teaching and Fellowship. Plan to come this week!

Devotion title: "What Do You Expect?"
Scriputre:
Luke 2: 1; 3-7
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. And everyone went to his own town to register. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem to the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in clothes and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." NIV

We All Need Some Hope!
November 29th was another great 5 @ 5. It's hard to believe that it's already been a month since we started this adventure together. Although we were a little smaller in number this past week, due to Thanksgiving, we still had a great gathering as we celebrated God's gifts of Music, Prayer, Fellowship and his word. Micah's theme this past week was "Hope for the Season, Hope for Our Life" and was based on Luke 18: 35-43 and Psalm 62: 5-8. This Sunday was also the First Sunday of Advent, and the first candle on Advent is the candle of Hope.
The music group was wonderful as usual! Thanks to Julie Foster for being the service leader and to Cardo Lianez for being the Scriputre Reader.
Plan to join us this Sunday, from 5:00-6:00pm for our casual, celebration style group!

Devotion Title: "Hope for the Season, Hope for our Lives"
Scriptures:
Luke 18: 35-43
"As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, 'Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.' He called out, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!' Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, 'Son of David, have mercy on me!' Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, 'What do you want me to do for you?' 'Lord, I want to see,' he replied. Jesus said to him, 'Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.' Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God." NIV
Psalm 62: 5-8
"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hears to him, for God is our refuge." NIV

Let's Get Loud
It's time to "Get Loud" as individuals, as a church, and as a family of believers! The devotion on Nov. 8 was based on Psalms 150 and was titled "Let's Get Loud". As believers we have been silenced by non-believers for too long, it's time that we shout from the mountaintop about the love of God in our lives. It's also time that we as individuals let God's love flow from our heart and from our lips as we glow in the love that he has given us! And as a church, what can we do to get that snowball that is our church moving downhill, picking up more and more momentum and getting bigger and bigger?
Also, we would like to give a special thanks to Julie Foster for being the service leader and to Beth Cash for reading the scripture.
Plan to attend next Sunday, from 5:00-6:00pm at First Church of the Brethren!
